Kisumu County officials and players in the health sector have advised Kisumu residents not to expect to find government-provided condoms in dispensers located across the county.
Dr Fred Oluoch, the Kisumu director of public health and sanitation, said that only 5,000 condoms had been distributed to various sections of the city.
He further advised guests and revellers that they should buy condoms over the counter.Kisumu being the County with the highest HIV cases has only five thousand condoms at the moment.
Kisumu county was expected to host one of its biggest gatherings ever, the ninth AfriCities conference that has been held today.
Complains have been heard from the netizens that condoms sold over the counter are expensive since customers will have to part with at least $1 (Sh100) for one condom from the shops.
While condoms are an effective method of birth control readily available, they also protect wearers against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis.
